Meet the Founder

I'm Tony DeBonis, and I've been a nurse practitioner for nearly four decades, two of which were as a federal NP with Department of Veterans Affairs.  It was my own service-connected medical disabilities which led me to this career to help other veterans. Shortly after ETS'ing from the Army, I applied for a service-connected disability and was awarded only 10%. Feeling confident that I deserved a higher rating, I rewrote my appeals letters twice and eventually wound up with a 100% service-connected disability.

Since then,  my professional experience gained from employment at the VA has helped strengthen my ability to craft accurate and persuasive nexus letters. I earned my BSN at Creighton University's Accelerated Nursing Program. As a prerequisite to enter the program, a bachelors degree in another field was required. In order to satisfy this requirement, I utilized my bachelors of science degree in biology which I earned from University of Illinois. This degree gave me great breadth and depth of knowledge in anatomy and physiology.

After graduation from Creighton University, I entered the US Army where I worked as a nurse practitioner in a busy internal medicine clinic. It was here that I gained the ability to selectively filter through pages of a patient's medical history in order to make a plan of care. Although I was assigned to a brick and mortar hospital, I was also attached to the 101st Airborne Division to support during training missions.  While in this duty assignment,  I gained valuable experience in diagnosing and treating chronic medical problems that our soldiers routinely face. I was also keen to learn the medical problems that our troops encountered under a variety of simulated combat conditions. I ETS'd four years later, and eventually came to work for VA, accumulating over two decades of service to veterans. Here I gained valuable experience, working with veterans on a daily basis.

You can depend on me to deliver the highest quality, most persuasive, yet factually-based nexus letters.  After reviewing your medical records, and if I find that you have a strong case, I will support your Nexus letter with at least two professional medical articles taken from prominent, nationwide medical sources. I look forward to working with you.

How We Protect Your Privacy

We exclusively use Hushmail for encrypted patient communications. Hushmail’s layered levels of protection include:

OpenPGP encryption – Encrypts the contents and attachments of your messages, and they can stay encrypted while stored on Hushmail’s servers.

TLS/SSL encryption – Protects your information while it travels between your device and Hushmail’s servers, with added safeguards like forward secrecy, HSTS, and certificate pinning.

Encrypted private keys – Your private encryption key is protected with your password/passphrase. Hushmail stores only a hashed value for authentication, not your actual password.

Two-step verification – Adds a second layer of security using a verification code sent by text, email, or an authentication app.

Secure message center – Lets patients and clients without Hushmail read confidential messages inside a secure Hushmail environment instead of in their regular inbox.
